Chaka Shrimp (Penaeus indicus)
The Chaka Shrimp, also known as the Indian White Shrimp, is a signature seawater species harvested from the coastal waters of the Bay of Bengal. In Bangladesh, it is a highly valued export product, second only to the Black Tiger shrimp in popularity and demand.
Unlike farm-raised shrimp, Chaka shrimp are wild-caught from the saline depths of the sea, which gives them a distinct, clean, and sweet marine flavor. They are physically characterized by their pale, translucent shells with a light yellowish-white tint. One of their most appealing features is that they turn a vibrant, appetizing pinkish-orange when cooked, making them a favorite for both retail and fine dining.
Texture and Culinary Appeal
The texture of Chaka shrimp is notably different from the Black Tiger; it is tender, moist, and slightly softer, allowing it to absorb sauces and spices exceptionally well. This makes it an ideal ingredient for a wide range of dishes, from traditional curries and stir-frys to delicate steamed seafood recipes.
Sustainability and Processing
Our Chaka shrimps are harvested during peak seasons and immediately transported to processing facilities where they are sorted by size and quality. By adhering to strict HACCP and international food safety standards, we ensure that the natural freshness, protein content, and nutritional value of the wild catch are preserved.
Whether used in a professional kitchen or at home, Chaka shrimp provides a high-quality, lean protein source that represents the very best of Bangladesh's natural marine resources.
